Course – Care
Please take the time to care for the golf course. Please replace divots, fix ball marks, and rake or smooth bunkers.
Pace of Play
The RMJGT Pace of Play Policy is in effect as detailed in the RMJGT tournament rules section of the RMJGT website. The overall pace of play is set at 4 hours 45 minutes.
Format, Scoring & Ties
Due to potential inclement weather, this is a stroke play event consisting of 4 rounds of 9 holes. Please report to scoring area when done, which will be located inside or outside restaurant. You have left the scoring area when returned your card (paper or electronic). In the event of a tie for first place, there will be a sudden death playoff on the course. If that is not feasible matching scorecards will determine final positions.
Rulings
Resolving Rules Issues During Round: 1) Request a ruling from a Rules Referee or 2) play two golf balls under rule 20.1c(3). Before playing either ball, you should announce which ball’s score you want to use, you must finish the hole with both balls, and you must report the facts to the Committee at scoring.
LOCAL RULES / CONDITIONS OF NOTE
Preferred Lies – General Area and Bunker
General Area - If your ball lies in the general area that is cut to fairway height (meaning only fairway and fringe), you may take free relief by placing your ball within one club-length of its original lie no closer to the hole. If your ball lies in the general area that is not cut to fairway height or less, you may take free relief by marking, lifting, cleaning, and replacing your ball on its original spot.
Bunker - If your ball lies in a footprint, ball divot, disturbed area (poorly raked) or grass tuft in a bunker, you may take free relief by placing your ball within one club-length of its original position no closer to the hole. You are not allowed to take free relief if these four conditions interfere with your intended stance or intended swing.
Out of Bounds (OB)
OB is identified and defined by the course side edge at ground level of white stakes/posts. The driving range is OB.
Abnormal Course Conditions
Ground under repair (GUR) is defined by specific identification or colored flags. GUR includes muddy areas, including tire ruts that displace dirt/mud. Tire tracks on grass that have not displaced dirt or mud are not GUR. Areas of bare dirt, unprepared sand, rocky soil, tree roots and tree stumps are not GUR. If your ball’s lie or your intended stance/swing are interfered with by animal holes, flattened or not, you may take free relief within one club-length no closer to the hole of the nearest point of complete relief.
Penalty Areas:
Penalty areas may be identified by red/yellow stakes and consist of areas of dense vegetation and/or water. The schedule on the following page identifies the general location and type of penalty area. Dense vegetation exists where reeds, blackberry and salal bushes, vines, trees. high grass, and other vegetation grow closely together. Areas of primarily higher natural grass or individual trees are part of the general area and are not penalty areas. The penalty areas are defined (in order of priority) by: (1) red/yellow lines; (2) mow lines between rough and dense vegetation; (3) mow line between high grass and dense vegetation; (4) the edge of the dense vegetation where adjacent to a cart path; and (5) where ground falls towards water. Where the course is not on the other side of a penalty area, the penalty area extends to infinity. For penalty areas that coincide with out of bounds, the edge of the penalty area is adjacent and just inside the edge of the out of bounds area. No play zones (NP) are identified by red stakes with green tips. You must take penalty relief from NPs or free relief if your intended stance/swing are interfered with by NP.
Drop Zones (DZs)
DZs are provided on hole 4 (for yellow penalty area) behind the green, hole 6 (for relief from the yellow penalty area only if you cannot take back on the line relief) before the penalty area on the left side or (for relief from the cart path or the red penalty area surrounding the green) before the green on right and left sides, hole 13 (for balls that enter red penalty area on the left and right sides of hole after the penalty area that crosses the general area or behind the green) on lower part of hole adjacent to cart path, and hole 17 (for balls in red penalty area right of the green) before and to the right of the green.
Immovable Obstructions (IOs)
IOs include cart paths (dirt, gravel or paved) and adjacent curbs (whether cement, stone, or wood), adjacent worn areas, landscaped areas surrounded by stones or cart path, hole monuments, buildings, yardage markers, utility boxes, drain grates and pipes, waste bins, and sprinkler heads.

LOCAL RULES
- If your ball is within two club-lengths of an IO (for example a sprinkler head), if the IO is within two club-lengths of the putting green and if your line of play is interfered with by the IO, you may take free relief.
- If you drop your ball using back on the line relief and your ball rolls forward but comes to rest within one club-length of where it first touched the course, you have taken relief properly.
- If your ball played from the green accidentally hits you, your club used for the stroke or an animal defined as a loose impediment, your stroke counts and your ball must be played as it lies.
- If your club is significantly damaged during your round, other than through your abuse, you may replace the club during your round.
Temporary Water (TW) – TW means there is water on the ground where your ball lies or where you intend to take your stance that is present before or after you take your stance. You may take free relief from TW by identifying the nearest point of complete relief (NPCR) where there is no TW and dropping your ball within one club-length no nearer the hole of that NPCR. Where your ball is on the putting green, you may take free relief by placing your ball on the NPCR on or off the green. If you cannot locate your NPCR, you may place your ball at the point of maximum available relief (MAR) on or off the green. MAR is where you have the least interference from the TW. If your ball is in a bunker, you may take the same free relief, but you must drop your ball in the bunker. For one penalty stroke, you may take back on the line relief outside a bunker.
Embedded Ball – If your ball has embedded in its own pitch mark (meaning that any part of the ball is below the surface of the ground), you may take free relief. Using a spot immediately behind the embedded ball as the reference point (RP), you may drop your ball within one club-length of the RP no nearer the hole. To avoid improving the conditions affecting your next stroke, you should not repair the embedded pitch mark until after your next stroke.
Unplayable ball (UB) – If you decide to take penalty relief for an UB, you have three relief options:
- Lateral relief – you make drop your ball within two club-lengths of your original UB no nearer the hole.
- Back-on-the-line relief – you may drop your ball within one club-length np nearer the hole than your UB based on a line from the hole through the location of your UB.
- For the two options above you must locate and identify your original ball.
- S&D relief – play your next stroke from within one club-length of your original spot no closer to the hole.
- You may take unplayable ball relief outside a bunker for two penalty strokes by using the back on the line relief procedure.
Caddies – You may use a caddie during your round. As you begin to take the stance for your intended stroke, your caddie may not be on or near your line of play extended behind your ball. If your caddie is in that position, your caddie must move away from that line, you must step out of your stance and you must restart your position for your stance. If your caddie does not move away and you make a stroke with your caddie standing behind you on your line of play, you will be subject to a two-stroke penalty.
Caddies are allowed at Rocky Mountain Junior Tour Tournaments EXCEPT for the RMJT Cup. Caddies will not be allowed to be parents. The Caddie Fee is $55 once per year and applies to the RMJT allowed tournaments.
A “caddie” is one who assists the player in accordance with the Rules, which may include carrying or handling the player’s clubs during play. Caddies may be any of the following – sibling, friend, swing coach, etc., but all will be held to the same standard, regardless of golf experience. Not Parent.
(*Exception is for 10&Under division; parents are allowed to caddie for 10U only*)
Caddies must have a good understanding of the USGA Rules of Golf and any penalties endured by the Caddies will be assessed to the player.
Players must register for Caddie option with RMJT and you will receive your official BADGE at the first event you attend. (Caddie fee follows the player during season).
POLICIES:
Caddies will be allowed to assist with the player’s clubs and equipment
Caddies will be allowed to clean a player’s club and/or golf ball
Caddies will be allowed to give players advice
Caddies will be allowed to assist a player in any way on the green
Caddies MUST assist pace of play, not hinder it. Players with caddies will be held to the same pace of play policies, standards and punishments as those without.
The RMJT reserves to right to remove a caddie at any time if there are behavior issues that are damaging to the player, the group or the RMJT. The RMJT also reserves the right to deny a player the right to use a caddie in Round 2 (or subsequent rounds) if severe pace of play issues present themselves in Round 1.
You may click HERE to purchase an annual Caddie Registration. Your RMJT account dashboard will show if you already have a current Caddie registration.
