Course – Care

Please take the time to care for the golf course.  Please replace divots, fix ball marks, and rake or smooth bunkers.

Pace of Play

The RMJGT Pace of Play Policy is in effect as detailed in the RMJGT tournament rules section of the RMJGT website.  The overall pace of play is set at 4 hours 45 minutes.

Format
This is a stroke play event.  For all players, the competition consists of 4 rounds of 9 holes.

Scoring & Ties

All players must report to the scoring area, outside the pro shop or inside near grill, without delay when their round is complete.  You have left the scoring area when returned your card and moved outside the marked scoring area.  In the event of a tie for first place, there will be a sudden death playoff on the course.  If that is not feasible matching scorecards will determine final positions.

Rulings

Resolving Rules Issues During Round:  1) Request a ruling from a Rules Referee or 2) play two golf balls under rule 20.1c(3).  Before playing either ball, you must announce which ball’s score you want to use, you must finish the hole with both balls, and you must report the facts to the Committee at scoring.

LOCAL RULES / CONDITIONS OF NOTE

Out of Bounds (OB)

OB is identified and defined by the course side edge at ground level of white posts, boundary fence posts, split rail fences, white dots and certain paved cart paths, sidewalks and roads.

Ground Under Repair (GUR)

GUR is the area from which optional free relief is available, is defined by white lines, colored stakes with rope or colored flags or by specific identification.  GUR includes areas of unusual damage including area of cart traffic or seasonal conditions such as tire ruts that displaced dirt.  Tire tracks on grass are not GUR.  Areas of bare dirt, unprepared sand, rocky soil, tree roots and tree stumps are not GUR.  The landscaped area behind hole 15 green is a no play zone (NPZ).  You must take free relief from the NPZ and may use the two drop zones.

Penalty Areas:

Penalty areas are identified by red/yellow stakes and areas of dense vegetation.  Dense vegetation exists where bushes, vines, trees and high grass grow closely together.  Areas of primarily higher natural grass are part of the general area and are not penalty areas.  The penalty areas are defined (in order of priority) by (1) red/yellow lines, (2) mow lines (including where cart paths are adjacent to areas of dense vegetation); (3) where ground falls towards water; and (4) sight line between stakes.  Where the course is not on the other side of a penalty area, the penalty area extends to infinity.  For penalty areas that coincide with out of bounds, the edge of the penalty area is adjacent and just inside the edge of the out of bounds area. Cart paths or bridges inside the edge of penalty areas are part of the penalty areas.

Drop Zones (DZs)

As optional relief located on: hole #6 (in front and behind pond) for penalty relief; hole #9 for the landscaped area behind green;  hole #16 for the landscaped area NPZ behind green; and hole #17 for the landscaped area behind green.  DZs are defined by a blue stake and you may drop your ball within three club-lengths of the blue stake.

Immovable Obstructions (IOs)

IOs include cart paths (dirt, gravel or paved) and adjacent worn areas, landscaped areas, hole monuments, buildings, split rail fences if not boundary objects, utility boxes, drain grates and pipes.

Integral Objects

Boulders are integral objects from which free relief is not allowed.

LOCAL RULES

  1. If your ball is within two club-lengths of an IO (for example a sprinkler head), if the IO is within two club-lengths of the putting green and if your line of play is interfered with by the IO, you may take free relief.
  2. If you drop your ball using back on the line relief and your ball rolls forward but comes to rest within one club-length of where it first touched the course, you have taken relief properly.
  3. If your ball played from the green accidentally hits you, your club used for the stroke or an animal defined as a loose impediment, your stroke counts and your ball must be played as it lies.
  4. If your club is significantly damaged during your round, other than through your abuse, you may replace the club during your round.

Temporary Water (TW) – TW means there is water on the ground where your ball lies or where you intend to take your stance that is present before and after you take your stance.  You may take free relief from TW by identifying the NPCR where there is no TW and dropping your ball within one club-length no nearer the hole of that NPCR.  Where your ball is on the putting green, you make take free relief by placing your ball on the NPCR on or off the green.  If you cannot locate your NPCR, you may place your ball at the point of maximum available relief (MAR) on or off the green.  MAR is where you have the least interference from the TW.  If your ball is in a bunker, you may take the same free relief, but you must drop your ball in the bunker.

Embedded Ball – If your ball has embedded in its own pitch mark (meaning that any part of the ball is below the surface of the ground), you may take free relief.  Using a spot immediately behind the embedded ball as the reference point (RP), you may drop your ball within one club-length of the RP no nearer the hole.  in order to avoid improving the conditions affecting your next stroke, you should not repair the embedded pitch mark until after your next stroke.

Unplayable ball (UB) – If you decide to take penalty relief for an UB, you have three relief options:

  • Lateral relief – you make drop your ball within two club-lengths of your original UB no nearer the hole.
  • Back-on-the-line relief – you may drop your ball within one club-length np nearer the hole than your UB based on a line from the hole through the location of your UB.
  • For the two options above you must locate and identify your original ball.
  • S&D relief – play your next stroke from within one club-length of your original spot no closer to the hole.
  • You may take unplayable ball relief outside a bunker for two penalty strokes by using the back on the line relief procedure.

Caddies – You may use a caddie during your round.  As you begin to take the stance for your intended stroke, your caddie may not be on or near your line of play extended behind your ball.  If your caddie is in that position, your caddie must move away from that line, you must step out of your stance and you must restart your position for your stance.  If your caddie does not move away and you make a stroke with your caddie standing behind you on your line of play, you will be subject to a two-stroke penalty.
