Local Rules

NOTICE TO PLAYERS

Battle at Lake Spanaway – March 12 & 13, 2022

Play is governed by the current USGA Rules of Golf including Clarifications on the Rules of Golf. The information on these two pages supplements the Local Rules and RMJGT Policies, Rules and Regulations, Pace of Play Policy and COVID-19 Procedures.  Posted course local rules do not apply.

CONDITIONS OF PLAY

Teeing Area

Boys 15-19 Green tees Boys 11-14   White tees   Boys 10 & under   Gold tees - adjusted

Girls 15-19 Gold tees     Girls 11-14    Gold tees    Girls 10 & under    Gold tees - adjusted

Care for Course

Please take the time to care for the golf course.  Please replace divots, fix ball marks, and rake or smooth bunkers.  Flagsticks may be left in or removed from hole.  Bunkers should be raked after play.  See preferred lie local rule on  fnext page.

Bunkers

Bunkers are areas of prepared (raked) sand.  See bunker preferred lie local rule on next page.

Format, Ties & Scoring
The Competition consists of 4 rounds of 9-hole stroke play.  The scoring area will be outside by grill or inside in the grill area.  You have returned your scorecard at scoring and left the scoring area.   If feasible, ties for first place will be decided by a sudden death playoff.  Otherwise, a scorecard playoff consistent with RMJGT policies will be followed.

Rulings

If a Referee is not readily available, you may call Jess Miller (cell number at bottom of page).  You may play two golf balls under rule 20.1c(3). Before playing either ball, you must announce which ball’s score you want to use, you must finish the hole with both balls, and you must report the facts at the scoring area.

LOCAL RULES / CONDITIONS OF NOTE – read below and next page for local rules in effect

Out of Bounds (OB)

OB is defined by the course side edge at boundary fence posts (fence surrounds the golf course property), driving range fence posts (driving range is OB), and the course side edge of the parking lot behind hole 9 and 18 greens.

Abnormal Course Conditions – Ground Under Repair (GUR)

GUR is the area from which optional free relief is available, is defined by white lines.  Small white stakes with green tips, yellow poles with yellow rope, and red poles in the rough have no meaning.  Bare dirt, sand, mounds, tree stumps, roots and logs covered with vines in the general area are not GUR.  Tire ruts that are depressed in the ground or in muddy areas are GUR.  Tire tracks that only leave an impression in the grass are not GUR.  If your ball, intended swing or intended stance is interfered with by animal holes and cast material, whether flattened or not, you may take free relief.  The gravel/sand/dirt area surrounding the maintenance building and the nearby slag piles (all located to the left side of holes 5, 6 and 7) are GUR.

Penalty Areas:

Penalty areas may be identified by red stakes or red lines.  Penalty areas include water (holes 10 and 14) and dense vegetation (holes 6, 7 and 8 on left side, hole 11 on right side off teeing area, and hole 17 behind green), which exists where bushes, vines, trees. and high grass grow closely together.  Areas consisting only of high grass or where trees and bushes are not growing closely together are not penalty areas. The edge of penalty areas is defined (in order of priority) by (1) red lines; (2) the edge of the grass ending before the penalty area for dense vegetation; (3) where the ground falls to the water; or (4) the sight line at ground level between stakes.

Dropping Zones

No dropping zones are provided.

Immovable Obstructions (IOs)

IOs include paved, sand, gravel, or dirt cart paths (including adjacent curbs and worn areas), split rail fences, signs, sprinkler heads, grate covers, concrete pads, utility boxes, landscaped tree and bush areas tied into cart paths, ball washing stands, large equipment parts, cement blocks and maintenance/washroom buidings.  Yardage poles (yellow, blue, white) located in grass cut to fairway height are IOs even if they can be moved.

Wrong Greens

The nursery green behind the driving range on the left side of holes 1 and 4 and the practice green to the right of hole 10 are wrong greens.  You must take free relief from wrong greens in the same manner as with relief from IOs.
